Shot Assignment
We reviewed digital cameras as well as how to take interesting photographs including the rule of the thirds, use of unusual angles, and the need for photos to be uncluttered. We also discussed close-up, mid, and long shots as well as jump cuts and cut aways.
* Addition:When editing please add at least one sound effect from the royalty free website Soungle ( http://soungle.com/ ). Download sound placing into the shared Shot file under Sound Effects and import into Movie Maker.
Editing Note: You may need to add text or use a microphone to provide a voice over to make your message clearer.
Production Assignments: In groups of three you were expected to shoot the simple scenario of two people walking towards one another, passing and exchange an item, once passed one person was to look back at the other. You were expected to use close-up, mid and long shots with an emphasis on shots that could be used later to edit into cut aways. You were expected to rotate positions so that each person had the opportunity to experience each position. After the production you were to upload the files into a shared folder. You were given a paper reference and worksheet dealing with shots (close up, mid, and long shots as well as jump cuts and cut aways).
Movie Maker Editing: Individually edit together your groups digital material using Microsoft Movie Maker. Your edited piece must include a close-up, mid, and long shot as well as a title at the beginning and end. Three transitions must also be used in addition to sound elements such as music. Avoid jump cuts by editing cut aways by using the handout as a reference. Part of your mark will be based on how well you edit the piece so that it tells a story and does so with an unique or distinct point of view.
