PSA Video Production Project
Objective: To
organize, shoot and edit a short (15-30 seconds) Public Service Announcement
(PSA) on the topic related to technology.
PSA's should :
- address a technology issue
- be able to be done in school with minimal disruption- consist of four scenes
- be able to include everyone in group including opportunties for each member to direct and use camera.
- each group must record at least one person “talent”.
- be in keeping with school guidelines and values i.e. language, violence
In groups of four get started by considering:
Premise: What is the main idea of your PSA? The main idea should be clear throughout your production
Hook: How are you going to get the viewer’s attention? A hook is something that will get viewers to want to watch, and continue to watch your production.
Viewers Reaction: How are you going to make your viewers react? Are you planning on simply having them understand or know something? Do you plan on changing their mind? Do you want them to take action?
Creating your treatment:
1) As a group brainstorm and decide on an idea
2) Complete the PSA Student OUTLINE sheet keeping in mind each group member must have a chance to be the camera person and director.
3) Each member will be responsible for creating a scene and recording it on a storyboard sheet.
When the PSA Student Outline sheet and each member's storyboard is completed consider the following as a group.
a) does our PSA have a beginning, middle, and end?
b) does it avoid using a passive voice?
c) does it use short, concise sentences/dialogue?
d) does your storyboards accounted for each scene and critical point?
e) what is the objective for each scene?
f) how is the scene going to accomplish each objective (visually, verbally, or a combination)?
