Finding and Citing “Copyright Free” Images.
Please use Creative Commons (http://creativecommons.org) a non-profit search site that allows copyright holders to post their work and indicate the degree of permission they are providing.

Instructions:
1) In the search box type in the item you are looking for i.e. jelly fish. A new window will show a number links to search engines (i.e. Google). Please choose Flickr
2) Flickr allows you to indicate an Advanced Search which is found under the search box. At the bottom of the Advance Search menu you will be able to indicate the following: Only search within Creative Commons-licensed content and Find content to adapt, modify, or build upon.
3) A selection of thumbnail images to choose from will appear. Right click the image you want and a menu will appear which indicates the following: This photo has: Some Rights Reserved. Click on it and you should find “You are free: to Share, to Remix” as well as a section showing “Under the following Conditions: Attributions”.The remix permission is important as it allows you to: crop (take a part of image out), resize (make smaller or lager), change the colour, and add to (i.e. words) the image.
4) By right clicking on the image the menu will also let you select the size you want. Once selected a window will open and the middle section will indicate “Download the (size you indicated) of this photo. Click to download.
5) Go back to image and find the name of the image (found just below the image) and the name of the copyright holder (top right of page). One way to cite work is shown above (Source, Title of Image, Name of Copyright holder). You can also hyperlink to the photo by: right clicking the image, selecting properties, copying the URL, highlighting your citation; right clicking the citation and selecting hyperlink, and paste in the URL.
